Using the Task Mining Client software

Task Mining Client software overview

The Task Mining Client software is installed on your machine and captures clicks, scrolls and other actions you perform in standard business applications and documents. Depending on how Task Mining has been configured, data may be captured from web pages you visit and screenshots may also be taken of your desktop.

Important

Task Mining data cannot be captured without your consent and knowledge. For more information, see Data privacy and security.

Accessing the Task Mining Client software

  1. Open the Task Mining Client software.

    Tip

    Search for Celonis Task Mining in your Windows task bar. If you can’t find it, you’ll need to install it.

  2. Read the data privacy information in the window that pops up.

    This window will appear every time you open the Task Mining Client software. You can view the data privacy information at any time by selecting Help > Privacy Settings.

  3. Select whether you agree to the terms of the data privacy text and:

    1. Confirm you want to continue; or

    2. Disagree and quit.

    If you confirm you want to continue, the Task Mining Client software opens.

Working with the Task Mining Client software

Start Task Mining data capture.

Select Start.

Manually starts Task Mining data capture.

If the Task Mining Client software has been configured to start capturing data automatically as soon as the Task Mining Client is started, you won't need to start Task Mining data capture. For more information, see Logging.

Important

The Task Mining Desktop software will only start to capture data if you've already accepted the legal terms. You can always start or stop Task Mining manually, even if the Task Mining Client software has been configured to start capturing data automatically. For more information, see User Consent in Task Mining basic client settings.

Pause Task Mining data capture.

Select Pause.

Manually pauses Task Mining data capture.

If the Task Mining Client software has been configured to start capturing data automatically as soon as the Task Mining Client is started, you will not be able to pause Task Mining data capture. For more information, see Logging.

Stop Task Mining data capture.

Select File > Quit Celonis Task Mining.

Closes the Task Mining Client software.

Important

If you close the Task Mining Client software window, the Task Mining Client software is still active in the background and will continue to capture Task Mining data. You must use Quit Celonis Task Mining to stop data capture.

Check whether the Task Mining Client software is running.

Check if the Task Mining icon TM_tray_icon.png is displayed in your Microsoft Windows system tray.

The Task Mining Client always shows the icon in the Microsoft Windows system tray if Task Mining data capture is running or paused.

Tip

Right-clicking the icon displays a menu that lets you open/close the Task Mining Client software window and pin the Task Mining icon to the Windows taskbar.

View error logs.

Select File > Show Error Logs.

Opens the window which shows errors logged by the Task Mining Client software. For more information, see Working with Task Mining data.

If the Task Mining Client software crashes due to an unexpected error, you can view the details in a file called crashreport_XXX in your home directory.

Add a comment to an activity.

Select Annotate Activity.

Opens a screen where you can add a comment describing your activity. The comment will be stored as an event and is used to provide additional context.

Ensure latest client settings are being used.

Select Configurations > Reload Client Settings.

Updates the client settings if the Task Mining Client software configuration file changes.

View the applications and events being captured.

Select Configurations > Show Configured Applications.

Opens a new window that shows all the configuration settings, captured applications, events, interactions and whether screenshots are taken.

Change the Task Mining project.

Select Configurations > Change Team and paste the activation link for the new Task Mining project.

Changes the Task Mining project the Task Mining Client software is connected to and collects data for. 

Note

The person who invited you to join the Task Mining project should provide you with the activation link. You should clear your Microsoft Windows cache before pasting the activation link.

Configure how public endpoints are accessed.

Select Configurations > Proxy Settings.

Configures whether public endpoints are accessed:

  • Without a proxy.

  • With a system proxy.

  • Manually.

We recommend contacting your admin for further information.

View information about the Task Mining Client software.

Select Help > About Task Mining.

Displays the Task Mining Client software version.

View the privacy statement.

Select Help > Privacy Settings.

Displays the privacy statement you agreed to before Task Mining data capture started.

Depending on how the Task Mining Client software has been configured, you either:

  • See this privacy statement each time you open the Task Mining Client software; or

  • Previously accepted its terms if Task Mining Client software is configured to start data capture automatically when the Task Mining Client software starts.

Important

The Task Mining Desktop software will start to capture data only if you've already accepted the legal terms. For more information, see User Consent in Task Mining basic client settings.
